Good morning! As expected, the activity level for the NPE2009 move-in increased exponentially yesterday. Friday and Monday were relegated to the companies with some of the largest pieces of equipment, which are located in positions that necessitate an earlier arrival. Yesterday, those companies started gathering their machinery for placement within in their booths.
In addition, hundreds of other companies simultaneously started receiving delivery of electric, padding, carpet, product and display (to keep chaos in check, it was done mostly in that order!). The scene was pure science. Eighteen wheelers, forklifts, cranes, electricians, riggers, plumbers, teamsters, engineers, exhibitor personnel, decorators and even a few wide-eyed members of the SPI Team!
Anyone arriving at McCormick Place couldn’t help but notice the huge NPE logo greeting them by the taxi stand outside the front door. Think that’s big? As soon as you enter the lobby, you might notice the 35 foot wide by 75 foot tall NPE banner (just in case someone forgot why they came to Chicago, and ventured to McCormick Place). Out in the lobbies, more banners were being hoisted, columns were wrapped, entrance units started to rise, and I even saw a few information counters and “You are Here” boards make their way into the fray.
But what really made my day? The lead foreman from one of our largest exhibitors (an injection molding company whose name I’ll withhold, but begins with an “H”) informed me that his team told him that this has been the smoothest move-in of an NPE that they’ve experienced – ever!
So until tomorrow, stay tuned, and if you aren’t already keeping up with the “fun,” check out our progress in this photo gallery. Reporting from the NPE 2009 show office in Chicago, this is Expo Gene — live on the scene!
