SPI’s Occupational Health and Environmental Issues Committee (OHEIC) has recognized 225 work sites with safety awards in its 2007 Occupational Safety and Health Survey. SPI conducts the Occupational Safety and Health Survey to collect statistical information of occupational illnesses and injuries in the plastics industry and to recognize those work sites that have excellent safety records, according to Susan Howe, SPI’s vice president, Processors Council and senior technical director, worker and product safety. This year, 79 Distinguished Safety Awards, 40 Achievement Safety Awards, 47 Merit Safety Awards, and 59 Special Recognition Awards were presented. In the latest Occupational Safety and Health Survey, 284 work sites reported their 2007 occupational injuries and illnesses. The responses represented 75,357,338 employee hours for 40,136 employees.
