As Monday draws to a close in Orlando, Florida, SPI’s Senior VP of Trade Shows Gene Sanders (ExpoGene) checks in with his running update on the setup of NPE2012 at the Orange County Convention Center. It’s humming.
Cranes are straining, floor joists are popping, and forklifts are groaning under the weight of NPE2012 (hey NPE, you better loosen the top button before it pops like a can of biscuits!). Exhibitors are bringing in more equipment than in over 10 years of NPE shows. Total weight on the show floor is ready to pass the 11 million pound mark. It was just 6 million Friday!.
If you are reading this, and you are in the plastics industry or use plastics in your products, you’d better register and get to the show. There will be more technology on display, in operation, and being discussed in educational programs here next week than at any other event in the world. We are like the Geek Squad of the plastics industry.
The equipment is pleasing to the eye as well. There are multiple shades of blue (KraussMaffei and Sumitomo are the NPE2012 version of the Blues Brothers – Der Jake and Elwood-san). There are cream colored machines, Arburg’s familiar yellow and green, and Engel, which corners the market on all-green machines…do they make tennis balls with those things? I don’t think so.
The folks at Bekum have been working hard to prepare and are in great shape! Their yellow machine inspired me to want to get
a bottle of Dom Perignon and christen it the Yellow Submarine. It’s beautiful! UNA-DYN has really “dug deep” and has come up with a beautiful booth as well (there’s an inside joke there somewhere).
Orlando itself is preparing for the road ahead. In addition to working hard on the show floor, they have committed resources in and around the OCCC, the airport, and throughout the NPE2012 campus. They are even painting the bricks on the road for you (or maybe they didn’t want the lizards to burn their little lizard feet).
Have a great Monday evening and stay-tuned for more Expogene “On the Scene”!
