Locating NPE2012 in Orlando for the first time is more than enough justification for the show’s “Breaking the Mold” theme. But there’s more. For example, kicking off show week with “Super Sunday” on the day before the exhibits open. It’s like frosting on the innovation cake.
Super Sunday starts with the 8:00-a.m. tee-off of the SPI 75thAnniversary Golf Tournament. Your reason to play could be the PGA-caliber Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Golf Club’s three great courses, or fund-raising for SPI’s Future of Plastics Foundation and the Orlando-based IDignity charity, two deserving causes.
But there’s an even better reason to sign up and play. Any experienced NPE exhibitor knows absolutely that the time on the links will be the best chance to talk with a good customer or prospect. That’s because they know that the following four days on the exhibit floor will be far too B-U-S-Y for any extended conversation. Besides, your silky smooth swing and precision putting could place you among the team and individual winners taking bows at the luncheon following your round.
If you haven’t yet registered, you can sign on by clicking here. Besides the glory and bragging rights, the $250-per-person charge includes greens fees, cart, continental breakfast, on-course refreshments courtesy of SPI and the tourney sponsors, the awards luncheon, and a commemorative logo shirt. Oh, and it’s not too late to be a Golf Tournament Sponsor, either. Seriously, the Grand Cypress courses, which hosted the LPGA CME Group Titleholders Tournament last November, are incredible.
There is much more than golf to Super Sunday. The Brand Owner Super Session and Panel Discussion featuring leaders of key end-user companies in major market sectors will run from 1:00 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. There will be a big old American-style barbeque hosted by the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and an a convention center orientation from 4:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
All of that leads up to the 6:00-p.m. start of SPI’s 75th Anniversary Gala, a formal banquet that features the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE) Awards and the Plastics Hall of Fame’s 40th Anniversary Induction Ceremony, honoring its ten newest members. The
evening’s keynote speaker is Jon Huntsman, Jr., former U.S. Ambassador to Singapore and China, twice-elected Governor of Utah, and a plastics insider. He serves on the board of Huntsman Corp., the global plastics and chemicals firm established by his father, Jon Huntsman, Sr., himself inducted into the Plastics Hall of Fame during NPE1994.
We have many good reasons to celebrate our industry’s accomplishments and those who achieved them. The Gala is the best place to stand and cheer.
