Good evening friends of and in the plastics industry. We are winding down our day as we head into the weekend. Today was the first day of move-in for the South Hall, however we still haven’t started moving into F Hall as the Mary K Cosmetics Show is still there. (I don’t make up this stuff … get it, Mary K, “make-up”?).
It is already getting hard to move around
the front half of halls A-D. There are hundreds of trucks, forklifts, cranes, crates, shipping containers, “resin-farms”, and scooters. I sure hope it doesn’t turn into bumper cars!
Everyone with Freeman, our exhibitors, and the Orange County Convention Center staffers are working extremely hard on our behalf. The fingers of the lead OCCC utility guy were blistered and sore from doing so many hook-ups (get that guy a manicure!). I think by Monday some of the early birds will start firing up these big puppies, and then it will really get interesting. We will probably get a bunch of looky-loos who heard there’s a monster truck demo at the OCCC).
There is so much equipment in the booths that I told one of the Milacron guys it looked like they had 10 pounds in a 5 pound bag, whereupon he looked at me deadpan and responded, “It’s a 4 pound bag,” and walked away. Another thing: I am sure glad this is an indoor show because Wittmann’s sign could be seen from space! Dave, Paco, my man, dang! The American Maplan booth is once again taking on a crystal palace feel — that or a small mall.
Move-in appears to be going well…and how about registration! Our attendee numbers are still tracking ahead of both NPE2009 and NPE2006. What’s really interesting is that the number of attendees to exhibitor people is up to 64%, versus 54% in ’06. In addition, the average stay is over 3 days per attendee, versus less than 3 days last time around. This all bodes well for the show.
Also of note is how highly engaged our attendees are in the show’s events. We’ve doubled the number of participants at the Opening Gala & Hall of Fame dinner on Super Sunday evening; Bill Carteaux’s Tuesday President’s Luncheon is hurtling toward a thousand people. (Bill, we expect one heck of a performance.) Participant numbers for the various education events, such as SPE’s ANTEC, are leaps and bounds ahead of ’09.
Saturday will be another rockin’ day around the OCCC, so be on the lookout for another edition of… Expogene – “On the Scene!”
